Analytical investigations into the effects of damage and redundancy on the reliability of structural systems are reported. These investigations are based on a definition of structural redundancy including both system reliability and damage assessment concepts. Truss systems and bridges analyzed for different damage scenarios are used to develop the theoretical concepts and to illustrate their practical applications.
