Abstract In the collision induced decomposition of a number of peptide ions formed by field desorption, it has been found that at the optimum pressure of collision gas the translational energy lost by an incident peptide ion increases as peptide ions of increasing mass are considered. The internal energy taken up by any individual peptide ion appears to be directly proportional to its mass.
