Abstract

A new vacuum ultraviolet light source is described which emits a continuous spectrum from 1250 to 1650 A. The electrodeless source, charged with 190 mm of krypton, is operated with microwave power at 2450 Mc/sec, and is completely sealed off from the pumping system. It has been used with a 21 ft vacuum spectrograph to photograph the absorption spectrum of benzene vapor in the 1350 to 1550 A region.
