Abstract

A microfluidic cross junction geometry was used to study the formation and modification of water droplets in oil media. Water droplets were formed from two horizontally opposing side channels alternatively. Then, their shapes were dynamically modified while transiting in the microchannel. There were three regimes of droplet shapes, circular, triangular, and rectangular shapes, which were determined by the volume ratio of water droplet in oil phase in microfluidic channels. All droplets formed in this experiment were monodispersed.
