THE ENDOCRINE TREATMENT OF MENOPAUSAL PHENOMENA

Abstract

The menopause is an event which has attracted wide attention among the public as well as among members of the medical profession. A variety of symptoms have been attributed to the critical change in a woman's life. A sharp distinction between the physiologic and the pathologic manifestations during this epoch of life has rarely been made. A causal relation between the symptoms exhibited and the physical changes in the body have been frequently assumed but seldom established. Numerous procedures and materials have been advocated for relief or cure, but proof of their specific efficiency is usually lacking. In recent years, special attention has been directed to endocrine preparations as therapeutic agents for relief of menopausal symptoms.
