Abstract

Subcutaneous adipose tissue was obtained from 8 patients undergoing various surgical procedures. All were in good nutritional balance. In each instance it was possible to demonstrate considerable lipolytic activity in vitro in the fatty tissue. It was further possible to identify this hydrolytic enzyme as lipoprotein lipase, similar in its characteristics to that previously reported in animal blood and tissue and human blood.
