Abstract

Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image size Notes 1. It is common to speak about nine 'core instruments' of human rights. In addition to UDHR, CCPR and CESCR and the two optional protocols of the CCPR (allowing individual complaint and for abolishing the death penalty), there are also CERD (on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination), CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women), CAT (Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment) and CRC (Convention on the Rights of the Child). See OHCHR (n.d.) for an overview of the system.
