Abstract

Abstract Pure nickel has been irradiated at 4.5 K using 3 MeV electrons. Isochronal and isothermal studies show that stage III is governed by an activation energy 1.04 ± 0.04 eV. This activation energy is constant through State III, independent of the purity of the sample, electron dose and radiation doping. From this it has to be concluded that the measured value must be attributed to the migration energy of single vacancies. Stage V is observed at about 760 K.
