The Ultraviolet Bands of Magnesium Hydride

Abstract

Extension of the $^{2}\ensuremath{\Pi}^{*}\ensuremath{-}^{2}\ensuremath{\Sigma}$ system of MgH leads to the following values of the constants of the $^{2}\ensuremath{\Pi}^{*}$ state. Previous erroneous assignments of $K$ values in the bands of both MgH and MgD are corrected. Difficulties in the interpretation of the $\ensuremath{\lambda}2348$ band of MgH and $\ensuremath{\lambda}2360$ band of MgD are discussed.
