CONDEA Vista coated all the tubes in an ethane cracking furnace with AlcroPlex® low coking coating supplied by Alon Surface Technologies, Inc. These tubes have been in operation for more than a year yielding positive results. Coke formation is reduced. This is evidenced by the doubling furnace runlength from 30 days to more than 60 days. In addition, there is lower CO formation and decoking the furnace is accomplished in less than half the normal time. Metallurgical analysis of samples removed from one coil also shows good results. There is no carburization of the tubes so far. Also, the durability of the coating is predicted to be better than expected.
