Abstract

Oxidation of L(+)-ascorbic acid to the radical anion has now been studied in the presence of diarylthallium hydroxides. The complexed radical anions are very stable; their half-lives are of the order of days. The ESR spectrum even permits quantitative determination of L(+)-ascorbic acid.
