The double-nucleophilic attacks of methanol and water successively on the two carbon atoms of a double bond of olefins was realized on a Pt(III) dimeric complex to give the corresponding dinucleophile-substituted alkanes for the first time. Formation of the intermediate diplatinum(III) β-methoxy and β-hydroxyalkyl complexes was confirmed.
