Abstract Two multi‐armed neutral fluorescent anion receptors ( 1 , 2 ) bearing multiple amide and thiourea binding sites were synthesized. Study of their UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra indicates that receptors 1 and 2 both form 1:1 complexes with dicarboxylate anions, and that the sensitivity for recognition of dicarboxylate is related to the chain lengths of these dicarboxylate anions. Upon addition of anions, the fluorescence intensities of host solutions were changed significantly. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2004)
