Abstract

A CHARACTERISTIC pattern of obesity confined to the face, posterior cervical and supraclavicular areas and trunk is seen in Cushing's disease and Cushing syndrome and after corticosteroid therapy. We recently observed 3 patients with localized, fatty tumors in the episternal area while being treated with adrenocortical steroids. These tumors are of interest since they have not been specifically emphasized as part of the obesity pattern of corticosteroid excess. They are reversible; they may be unnecessarily excised.Case ReportsCase 1. E.H., a 51-year-old man, entered the Veterans Administration Research Hospital on February 19, 1965, with superficial thrombophlebitis of the right . . .
