ABSTRACT Conjugated oestriol was measured in 75 samples of amniotic fluid obtained from normal pregnancies at about 10–42 weeks gestation. There was a tenfold increase in oestriol concentration from about 20–30 weeks gestation to term. Results from 22 normal pregnancies at term gave a range of oestriol concentration of 30–182 μg/100 ml amniotic fluid. At term there was no correlation between baby weight and oestriol concentration in amniotic fluid nor between placental weight and oestriol concentration in amniotic fluid.
