A crossed electron and ion beam method has been used to measure the cross section for ionization of N+ to N2+ by electrons with energies in the range 20 to 500 eV. The cross section rises from the threshold to a maximum value of 5.0 × 10-17 cm2 at an electron energy of 125 eV. The errors in the measured cross section are uncertain because of an apparent cross section below threshold attributed to the electron impact dissociation of N22+.
