Abstract Effective dietary management in Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM) is impeded by a variety of transient cognitive, behavioural and environmental events. In the current study forty individual's with IDDM were assigned randomly to either a treatment pup in which they were taught to identify and change eating in high risk situations for poor dietary management. or a wait list control. Dietary management and blood glucose control were assessed at pre- and post-treatment, and at three month follow up for the 32 subjects completing the study. The intervention produced significant improvements in dietary management, which were maintained to follow-up, and short term improvements in blood sugar control.
