One of the projects in our laboratories during the past three years has been the chemical characterization of proteins from the human erythrocyte. Hemoglobin, the principal protein, and its variants, have consumed most of our attention. We have been interested in the development of chemical procedures which will provide rapid examination of the chemical structure of abnormal human hemoglobins.
