Summary Laboratory measurements of rock dielectric permittivity show a dependence on water conductivity. The laboratory measurements were fitted by a model in which the rock microgeometry is represented as a collection of grains, some platy and some spherical, in water. The model can be used in a variety of log interpretation methods for the electromagnetic propagation tool (EPT), with or without microresistivity logs.
