A number of different diseases have already been associated with various antigens of the HLA system.1,2The aim of the present report is to outline the possible associations between HLA histocompatibility antigens and patients with keloids and/or hypertrophic scars. Typing for 26 serologically detectable HLA antigens was performed in 40 patients and 131 healthy white controls. The diagnosis was based on clinical and histological criteria; patients with other concomitant diseases were excluded. The distribution of the HLA specificities that were tested is shown in the Table; the analysis of the relative risk factors and χ2values are also reported. Comparing the numbers individually, the antigens HLA-B14 (P < .02 after correction) and HLA-Bw16 (P not significant after correction) were observed more frequently than expected. While the frequency of HLA-B14 was 25% in patients instead of 3.8% in controls (relative risk = × 6.30), the frequency of HLA-Bw16 was 25%
