Abstract

A passive localization method is described that combines the localization features of target motion analysis and matched-field processing. This method works directly with complex-valued beam spectra as its input. The algorithm can handle weak or fading signals and, because of its long-term integration of power from the matched-field processor, has enhanced detection characteristics. In towed array applications, this hybrid algorithm combines the broadside localization performance of target motion analysis with the good end-fire performance of matched-field processing to give good all-around performance.
