Abstract

A distributed fiber sensor is described to determine the location of disturbances along a length of optical fiber. The sensor constitutes two Sagnac interferometers: one with a position-dependent response to time-varying disturbances, and the other Sagnac with no position-dependent output. The signals are detected and converted to spatial information. Results obtained with a 200 m long sensor are discussed. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 17: 170–173, 1998.
