Abstract

Abstract Work is reviewed on the adsorption properties of typical friction reducing additives, at monolayer coverage, operating in the boundary lubrication regime. It looks at adhesive interactions, lateral interactions between adsorbate molecules, and transition temperatures. The adsorption properties of typical friction reducing additives can be accounted for by hydrogen bonding to surfaces and the lateral interactions between adsorbate molecules.
