ABSTRACT Pressure behaviors in layered commingled reservoirs that are a consequence of imbalances in initial reservoir pressures are documented. General conclusions concerning the interpretation of wellbore pressures when layer rates are unavailable are noted. A detailed examination of the time period when there is no surface production shows that much information which has a bearing on production performance can be discerned by the observation of pressure behavior during this time period. A number of approximate solutions to aid the analyst in analyzing well responses are documented. The observations noted here are general in the sense that they can be used to understand long-time shut in behavior even if initial pressures are equal and layers are commingled at different times.
