This paper describes a mechanism of heat and water vapor transfer through clothing. The flow of air past a clothed limb creates pressure differences round the surface. If the covering is permeable, ambient air will enter and air from the microclimate between skin and clothing will be extracted. A quantitative theory is developed and estimates are made of heat and water vapor transfer rates and also of the wind speeds at which the transfer rates from this mechanism equal the diffusion controlled rates.
