Abstract

Abstract The leaves of Chromolaena odorata were collected from different regions of Ivory Coast, samples of their essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The oils from Man (west) and Bonoua (south-east) present the same constituents predominantly by germacrene D (14–13.9 %), pregeijerene (9.7–8.1 %), ß-caryophyllene (9.5–17.2 %), caryophyllene oxide (8.3–11.3 %) and geijerene (8.0–9.5 %). While the sample from Guiglo (west) contained germacrene D (14.4 %), ß-caryophyllene (14.0 %) and trans-longipinocarveol (14.0 %) as major components. In Divo (centre-west), we had the predominance of ß-caryophyllene (21.3 %), germacrene D (18.9 %), pregeijerene (11.2 %) and y-cadinene (8.2 %). The oil from Yamoussokro (centre), contained the combination of ß-caryophyllene (16.0 %), germacrene D (15.4 %), pregeijerene (13.0 %) and geijerene (11.1 %). The oil from Agboville (south-west) was characterized by pregeijerene (20.8 %), germacrene D (18.2 %) and ot-pinene (8.6 %). The oil from Abengorou (east) was constituted by germacrene D (34.5 %), ß-caryophyllene (15.4 %) and pregeijerene (14.6 %).
