Abstract Structures of the cycloaddition products obtained from cycloheptatriene and para-substituted nitrosobenzene have rigorously been established by NMDR experiments and by degradation of the representative member, the cycloheptatriene-nitrosobenzene adduct, to 3-anilinocycloheptanone. All the adducts were found to be of [6+2] type. The ionic mechanism has been proposed for the cycloaddition in order to account for the substitution effect on the benzene ring.
