Magnetization and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements are reported for fine particles of iron, 20 Å in average diameter, dispersed in oil by a surface-active agent. The magnetic moment per atom was obtained from the saturation magnetization. The value at 4.2 K was 2.28µ B , which is larger than that in bulk iron. It was confirmed from the Mössbauer spectroscopy that the particles are free from oxidation. The hyperfine field H hf at 4.2 K was distributed in the range from 300 kOe to 400 kOe. The average of H hf was enhanced as compared with the bulk value correspondingly to the increase in the magnetic moment.
