Most patients with this syndrome have hematologic malignancies and have received antineoplastic chemotherapy. Typhlitis has not been reported to be a problem in patients with severe cellular immune deficiencies such as that caused by human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection; only two cases of probable neutropenic enterocolitis have been reported in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) (7). During a 15-month period, six patients with HIV-1 infection presented to our hospital with eight episodes of...References1. Newbold K. Neutropenic enterocolitis. Clinical and pathological review.
