Abstract Two novel porous germanates, [Ge5O10](H2O) (1) and [Ge10O20OH] [(CH3)4N] (2), are synthesized by a hydrothermal method using TMA (tetramethylammonium), and characterized by X-ray crystallography, showing that a novel type of 3 membered rings (two octahedral GeO6 and one tetrahedral GeO4) exists in 1, and the OH− anions are located in the center of double 4-membered rings in 2.
