More recently Nagel and colleagues (2) compared the Ouchterlony method with the more rapid counter-immunoelectrophoresis for the same purpose. They found cross reactions in 22% of their patients with streptococcal endocarditis and reiterated that cross-reacting antigens have been described in streptococci,Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus pumilus, lactobacilli, andHemophilus influenzaetype B. Until recently, we had found cross reactions only in patients with...References1. CROWDERWHITE JA: Teichoic acid antibodies in staphylococcal and nonstaphylococcal endocarditis.
