Infrared laboratory absorption spectral measurements of CF 2 Cl 2 and CFCl 3 are applied to balloon flight data of August 12, 1968. A volume mixing ratio of 5 × 10 −11 is derived for CF 2 Cl 2 and a probable volume mixing ratio of 2 × 10 −11 is estimated for CFCl 3 . These values are compared with calculations by Crutzen and by Cicerone et al. for 21 km. In addition, an upper limit for HF in the lower stratosphere up to 30 km is set at 3 × 10 −10 v/v for September 30, 1965.
