The electromagnetic scattering from elliptic cylinders with a surface which consists of sections of dissimilar electrical material is considered. The problem is solved by applying Galerkin’s method in conjunction with the Leontovich impedance boundary condition. The method applies to elliptic cylinders of arbitrary lossy or active materials and corrugated or rough surface cylinders. The accuracy of the Leontovich impedance boundary condition is discussed in terms of the radius−of−curvature−to−wavelength ratio and in terms of the index of refraction. In addition, the scattering cross section is computed for various cases of impedance loading or cylinder material
