The "gauge technique" for solving field theories introduced in an earlier paper is applied to scalar and vector electrodynamics. It is shown that for scalar electrodynamics there is no $\ensuremath{\lambda}{\ensuremath{\phi}}^{*2}{\ensuremath{\phi}}^{2}$ infinity in the theory, while with conventional subtractions vector electrodynamics is completely finite. The essential ideas of the guage technique are explained in Part II, Sec. 1 of the paper, and a preliminary set of rules for finite computation in vector electrodynamics is set out in Part III, Sec. 2.
