Accurate interpretation of elevated serum enzyme activity may be complicated, however, because many of the serum enzymes used as diagnostic aids in clinical medicine are found in several types of tissues. If a clinical situation is simple and only one type of tissue is diseased, then interpretation of the test results may not pose a problem. If, on the other hand, more than one tissue is affected, the physician may have difficulty interpreting an elevation if he is aware of multiple organ disease; or he may...References1.
