Flip-chip approach to endfire coupling between single-mode optical fibres and channel waveguides

Abstract

We report a practical approach to the positioning of a number of single-mode fibres for endfire coupling to channel waveguides. Boivin's approach has been extended to a flip-chip configuration which permits its use with substrates other than silicon.
