Abstract

A combination of hydrodistillation and adsorption by macroporous resins system for the recovery of perillaldehyde from Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton var. crispa f. viridis leaves was proposed. In this study, nine resins were used to systematically investigate the adsorption of perillaldehyde from hydrodistillation condensate of Perilla frutescens leaves, and to develop a simple and efficient process for recovery with the optimal resin. By comparison of static adsorption and dynamic adsorption/desorption experiments, SP-207 exhibited high adsorption capacity of perillaldehyde and can be completely regenerated for repeated use without any significant capacity loss, which is significant for practical application.
