Abstract The composition of the volatile oil from the radix of Scrophularia ningpoensis has been investigated by capillary GC, GC–MS. The oil contained 103 volatile components, of which 3.49% were terpenoids. The main constituents were fatty acids, such as palmitic acid (25.40%), linoleic acid (10.04%), α ‐linolenic acid (6.06%), γ ‐linolenic acid (4.82%), cis ‐palmitoleic acid (3.94%), trans ‐oleic acid (3.52%), cis ‐oleic acid (2.67%) and trans ‐palmitoleic acid (1.20%).
