1. A case of carcinoma in a herniated gastric cardia associated with short œsophagus is described, and the literature is reviewed. 2. It is pointed out that the diagnosis in vivo is made by co-ordination of radiological examination, œsophagoscopy and histological biopsy. 3. The etiology is discussed and found to be obscure owing to the apparent rarity of the condition.
