Abstract A theoretical study is made of light emission from impurity centres of crystals in the non‐equilibrium vibrational state, which appears as a result of the excitation of one of the vibrational sublevels belonging to the excited electronic term. It is shown that owing to these processes anti‐Stokes luminescence may be observed at T = 0°K. The validity of the kinetic equation approach is proved.
