Synopsis Fertilizer and water treatments were applied to native range for three years. During this time both treatments increased yield but did not affect botanical composition. After two dry years, the residual effects of both treatments changed botanical composition, resulting in reduced yield from water and an increase in undesirable species from fertilizer.
