Abstract The margin between fracture pressure and formation pressure while drilling the HPHT section on the deviated Well 22/30c- 13 was marginal. To successfully drill this section required an accurate knowledge of the Equivalent Mud Weight (hydrostatic pressure) and Equivalent Circulating Density. This paper presents how field measurements in conjunction with computer model predictions of hydrostatic pressure and ECD were made and applied to drilling the HPHT section. The technique proved valid for use in future HPHT wells. This paper also presents the effect of barite sag on hydrostatic pressure and ECD in a deviated HPHT well.
