A new apparatus for fretting wear investigation is described. This rig can be used at elevated temperatures having the features of measuring and recording simultaneously the frictional force and the normal force between the contacting surfaces. Also either the rider displacement, velocity or acceleration can be monitored and recorded. The data obtained assist in the determination of fretting mechanisms and some results are presented.
