Structure Determination of Bitter Principles in <i>Ailanthus altissima.</i> Structure of Shinjulactone A and Revised Structure of Ailanthone

Abstract

Abstract The structure of a new bitter principle, shinjulactone A, isolated from Ailanthus altissima SWingle was determined to be 11β,20-epoxy-1β,2α,11α,12α-tetrahydroxypicrasa-3,13(21)-dien-16-one and the configuration of a hydroxyl group at C-12 of ailanthone was revised to α-orientation by X-ray analysis.
