A technique is described which enables the accurate division of a flock of ewes into three categories of lambing performance-dry ewes, ewes which have lost their lambs (lambed and lost) and ewes with lambs at foot (lactating ewes). This technique is of particular value when a record of lambing by, individual ewes is required under field conditions. It also provides a rapid and inexpensive means of surveying problems of flock fertility, on graying properties.
