Condensation of protected peptide fragments on a 2-chlorotrityl resin (1, P = polymer) allowed human prothymosin α (ProTα), which contains 109 amino acids, to be synthesized in 11% yield. The protected peptide fragments were prepared on this resin and then purified by medium-pressure chromatography. The synthesis of proteins by chemical methods is of great importance, since it also allows the preparation of proteins containing noncoded amino acids.
