A Hemorrhagic Syndrome in Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia Secondary to Immunoadsorption of Factor VIII

THE purpose of this report is to describe a patient with Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia and a hemorrhagic disorder secondary to immunoadsorption of factor VIII by peripheral blood lymphocytes and by lymphocytes in a markedly enlarged spleen. Factor VIII became normal after splenectomy. Case Report A 32-year-old man was admitted to the Hospital of the Medical College of Pennsylvania because of previous hemorrhoidal bleeding, spontaneous hematuria, hemorrhage after a tooth extraction, axillary lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly and mild anemia. Inpatient findings were retinal-vein segmentation, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, with the tip of the spleen extending to the umbilicus, a hemoglobin of 8.9 g per deciliter, hematocrit . . .
