It is the purpose of this study to ascertain the extent to which demand for labor has been reflected by changes in the postwar labor force. The analysis shows that there is a statistically significant relationship between changes in the labor force and the demand for manpower. The implications of this relationship for needed levels of economic activity and employment are traced through, it being estimated that a rise in employment of almost 1.5 million per year will be needed merely for unemployment not to increase beyond its 1962 level.
