An impulse-type approximation is used to obtain an expression for the cross section Q for the capture of a light ion or atom from a target system by a fast projectile system. If the impact velocity ν is sufficiently high, Q falls off as ν-11. Capture in encounters between Ar and H2+ or D2+, between Ar+ and H2 or D2 and between CH4 and CH4+ are investigated.
