Pteridines and flavines could have arisen under prebiotic conditions from amino acids and the compounds allophanic acid, guanidinoformic acid, biuret, and formamidine obtainable from NH3, CO2, and H2O. This concept is supported by the detection of compounds such as (1) in thermolyzed mixtures of amino acids.
